- Both GT & Academic student take the same test in ielts listening and it is scored in the same way.
- There are 40 different types of questions and 4 sections with different topics
- Section 1, always begins with 2 speakers and this section deals with most of the time telephone conversation, booking form, table or restaurant or renting apartment. In this section a learners must listen information like names, date, times, place and number.
- Section 2 always comes with one speaker and deals with tourist guide, or information about building, resort, company or charity.
- It takes 40 minutes to take the test with 40 questions. You will get only one chance to listen the question. You will get extra 10 minutes to transfer your answer to a separate answer sheet.
- As IELTS is an international test, you will find wider range of accents specially British and Australian.
- In the case of spelling you have your own choice to write either British or American.
- As record will be played once only, you must practice it at home. You must practice it number of times at home.
- Beside, you need to be familiar with the vocabulary, pronunciation, context and some strategies
- At a time you have to perform many activities like listening, reading, thinking and writing. Though it is too tough to perform, you have no other option without doing this.
- You must use pencil not pen to answer your question especially when you will transfer your answer in the answer sheet.
- Your score will be counted according to the answer you can make correct. You will not get penalty if you make incorrect answer and your score will not be reduced.
- If you cannot identify the answer just guess. Who knows that might be correct!
- You can use both capital and small letter to answer your question. However, it is better to write all answer in capital letter.
- Always follow the instruction specially the number words for answer. If it is written no more than 3 words that mean you cannot write 4 words. You can either write one word or 3 words.
- Sometimes, as instruction it is written numbers and number. If it is plural, it will be more than one number. But if it is only number you will only write a number.
- You may be confused about how your words are counted in the ielts listening exam.
- A date “ 1950’ is counted as number
- A large number is also counted as a single word
- Hyphenated word like full-time is also counted as one word
- But a compound noun like Diamond Ring is counted as two words
- ‘ at the school’ or ‘school’ which one you should write. That is totally depended on the question like ‘the place you need to meet is .............. at the school/ ......not only school. Remember you are filling the gap. So you need to use appropriate words in the blank place.
- But if you question like 1) Place.......... / in that case you can use only school.
- If you cannot spell correctly, you will get wrong answer. During the time of your listening never concentrate on your spelling. Least you will miss the answer. Rather you need to focus on it while you are transferring your answer to the answer sheet.
- In the multiple choice question which you should write letter or word. You must write letter for example: (a) School (b) College (c) University
- Never try to understand all part of the listening. Even you need not understand all. Just focus on your question and you will get the answer.
- If you cannot understand an answer just moves on. You should not waste your time for a single answer.
- Try to understand the plural answer. You can understand from your question. For example. If the sentence is written like there are..... that means answer will be plural.
- Concentrate on your listening. It does not matter how much English you know. The thing is that you must concentrate on your listening.
