Bangladesh's furniture hopes for the bright shinny future as a major exporter and manufactures in the global market since it has already captured global market with its competitors. It is hoped that within five years it will reach a strong respectable position in the global market for its quality and powerful global marketing strategies.
KM Akhtaruzzaman, chairman of Akhtar Group stated that Bangladeshi young brilliant workers have huge potential by which the furniture companies can reach to the global market meeting the demand of own market. He also added that it has become possible for its reasonable labour cost. People always look for things with maximum qualities with minimum price. Bangladeshi furniture possess international standard with considerable price.
“International buyers are highly satisfied with the quality of the furniture and they said in no time Bangladesh will be the leading furniture exporter in the world market” said Nazrul Islam, general manager of Furnitec Industries Ltd. Furnitec, one of the major furniture companies in Bangladesh mostly produces office furniture and exports its high quality furniture in USA, UK, Japan and some other countries.
Local manufacturers like Hatil, Brothers Furniture, Nadia Furniture, Furnitec, Navana, Athenas, Regal and Partex are visited by the foreign delegates in every month for the business purpose. Akhtaruzzaman, being the first exporter of Bangladesh began exporting furniture in 1995. At present, more than 40 companies export furniture to 48 countries in clouding the Middle East as a major buyer.
Asian countries are the major suppliers of furniture in the global market. Among the Asian suppliers Bangladesh has lion share worth around $ 45 million in 2013-14. This achievement has not earned in a day. The sectors have come long a way from carpentry-based small shop in the last couple of decades without the help of Govt. It might flourish more if the Govt. provides some opportunities for this rising industry.
It is not so far, only 15 years ago, Bangladesh heavily relied on the imported furniture to meet its internal demand. But it is a great surprise now, that Bangladesh has grabbed major share in the global market miraculously. Congratulation! To a number of high-quality local manufacturers.
It is unbelievable that the Bangladeshi local market is growing annually from 3000 crore Taka to 22,000 corer Taka stated Akhtaruzzaman, the president of Bangladesh Furniture Exporters Association. He added that in no time, this booming sector will be the second largest export item of Bangladesh after the garment. It will be praiseworthy if the Govt. comes with the easy policies and cash incentives so that the exporter can compete with the international market strongly.
Akhtaruzzaman, owner of Akhtar Group said that this sector will create huge opportunities for the employment with minimum skills. Within five years it will create about 1 crore jobs which will increase GDP. Akhtar Group exports furniture to Australia, Japan, the UK, the USA and Canada.
A Karim Mojumdar, managing director of Nadia Furniture, said, “We now have factories that are fully compliant. Many big groups have also entered into the industry.”
