Huge Growth of Creative Industry in Bangladesh

At present the creative industry of Bangladesh is steadily growing up with 300 thousands employs having 120 billion taka capital industry. The industry includes television and radio advertisement, public relation, even management, mobile apps, software, digital media companies, movies, animation, entertainment industry and so on. In Bangladesh it is seen as separate sectors, but in other counties they consider it as creative sectors, which in some countries have massive economy. 

In the creative sectors India is more advanced than Bangladesh. According to FICCI (Federation of Indian Chamber of Commerce and Industry), in 2011 the Indian creative industry generated more than 740 Billion rupees which was about 655 billion rupees in the previous years.

S.G. Alam, MD of Grey Advertising Bangladesh told, “We are now in creative age where many people sell their ideas, even it was quiet unimaginable before 15 years. The creative industry is not large, but it is rising rapidly.”

Advertising: Now Ads are made for Radio, TV, Billboard and Newspaper. In Bangladesh there are more than 500 Ad agencies of which 10 to 15 control half of the Ad market. About 10 thousand people are engaged with these sectors.

According to AAB (Advertising Agencies Association of Bangladesh) the Ad market of Bangladesh is about 3 million taka and the market is rising 10% every year. The Ad agencies make Ad either themselves or by production house. With large and small there are about 60 production houses. Just one decade ago 30% Ads were made in India. Now 99% are made in Bangladesh!

Public Relations and Event Management: Along with Radio and TV, Ads are now taking the form of brand activation, promotional program, public relation and so on. All over Bangladesh, event Management Company has been mushroomed. There are about 40 large and medium even management companies which organize press conferences, concerts, AGMs, parties, weeding etc. In 2011, ICC World Cup Cricket’s inauguration ceremony was managed by local event Management Company.

Digital media: Now digital media companies are now most prospective. So Ad agencies are turning into digital system with a view to reaching the smart phone and internet users targeting younger generation, which comprise most of the online users. 


Entertainment Industry: The prospect of the film industry has been increased astonishingly. Bangladesh now produces full length, short and documentary films. The Movie Shuntey Ki Pao awarded in the Grand Prix festival in France. Even films are being exported now. 


The TV Program Association of Bangladesh has over 175 members. Outside of these, there are about 400 companies, which produce telefilms, TV Drama, reality show etc. According to TV program association, about 5 billion taka is invested every year in these sectors. Other TV program invests about 3 billion taka and audio industry invests about one billion annually.

Software and Animation
: Software has become a rapidly expanding area with 750 companies which has employed about 100 thousands employees. There are about 150 companies outside BASIS, where more than 70 thousands freelancers work. According to BASIS, software industry generates about 78 billion taka annually from both locally and internationally.
