The Taj Mahal is a love story in marble built by Emperor Shah Jahan, as a mausoleum to his wife Mumtaz. Legend has it that the Emperor’s hair turned completely grey overnight when he heard the news of his beloved wife’s demise. As a testament to his love, Shah Jahan began building the Taj Mahal

The Taj Mahal is an engineering marvel built on the banks of River Yamuna. It is a perfect example of the confluence of Persian, Islamic and Hindu styles of architecture. The sheer height of the structure is breathtaking.  The Taj Mahal changes colors during the sunrise and sunset. All visiting dignitaries like President Obama, Prince Charles make it a point to visit this glorious marvel.

More than 30 different types of stones, personally selected by the Emperor, were inlaid into the intricate work. 20,000 workers and more than 1000 elephants toiled for 2 decades to erect this master piece – which many claim to be the most beautiful structure in the world! It is one of the Seven Wonders of the World and an UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1983. A trip to India would be incomplete without experiencing this masterpiece

Tomb of Itimad-ud-Daulah  - It is a known a Baby Taj Mahal and was built by Jahangir. It is smaller and definitely lesser in scale than the Taj. But it is a good addition to learning more about Agra and the Mughal dynasty

In Agra, you can also visit  Fatehpur Sikri , Chinni ki Rauza , Jamma Masjid, Moti Masjid, Agra Fort, Khas Mahal, Panch Mahal, Keetham Lake, Sikandra.

Cultural Show: Kalakriti is a great show about the history of Taj Mahal. You can enjoy it everyday.

This walk takes you through the old bylanes of Agra making your relive the Mughal times. It gives you a sample of the food, and culture including British settlements. A must do.

Enjoy a 3 hour bath and spa to live the life of a Mughal princess, even if it is for a couple of hours. The spa is done overlooking the Taj at Uberoi Amarvilas. Cost around 13,000 INR.
