The line graph represents a comparative change in price among food items like fresh fruits and vegetables, sugar and sweets and carbonated drinks over the span of 30 years from 1979 to 2009. Overall, all the food items began from the same price point in 1979 but the price of fresh fruit and vegetables  experienced the highest growth during the period whereas the price of carbonated drinks was the lowest among all.

Firstly, after beginning from just above 50 taka, the price of fresh fruit and vegetables reached 100 taka in 1983. It then experienced a sudden fall in price between 1983-1985 and after that it surpassed all other foods’ price. In 2009, it reached over 300 taka after having random fluctuations and staying well above the consumer price index.
On the other hand, the price of suger and sweets as well as carbonated drinks stayed with that of fresh fruits and vegetables till 1985. After that both of them fall under the consumer price index but steadily increased to the end of the period. Finally, Sugerand sweet and carbonated finished with a price of nearly 200 and just above 150 taka respectively which was below the consumer price index.

The line graph presents how the price of fresh fruits and vegetables, sugars and sweets, and carbonated drinks changed over 40 years time period starting from 1978 to 2009.

From the graph it is clear that prices of each of these foods followed an upward trend over this mentioned time period. Initially, price of fresh fruits and vegetables, sugars and sweets, and carbonated drinks were almost same in 1978. But prices of these products went up gradually as the time increased. Fresh fruits and vegetables became the most costly product among the above mentioned products and followed an upward trend with some fluctuations.

Furthermore, price of sweet products and drinks also followed an increasing pattern with less fluctuation compared to that of fresh fruits and vegetables. However, price of carbonated drinks

did not change much from the year 1990 to 2000. After being almost a fixed price for a decade, the price began to increase. The consumer price index also followed an upward trend over four decades.

Write at least 150 words.
The line graph depicts a comparison of amount of pollution caused by Sulphur dioxide and Smoke in London from the years 1600 to 2000.

Overall, Sulphur dioxide is the one that consitantly had higher pollution level than Smoke over the period of 400 years.

To begin with,Sulphur dioxide started with just above zero pollution level in 1600 and it continued to rise for the next fifty years. In between 1650 to 1700, it experienced a sudden fall in pollution level after reaching near 750 micrograms per cubic metre. But after that, it again had a sharp increase and crossed the 750 micrograms per cubic metre mark and the pollution level again started dropping until 1750.

After 1750, it maintained a steady level for almost for the next 50 years. Just a few years before 1800, it again started rising and crossed the 750 mark reaching close to the 1000 micrograms per cubic metre level between 1800-1850. After 1850, the pollution level underwent through some fluctuations and right before the start of the 20th century, it started decreasing. For the next 100 years, pollution level dropped continuously reaching nearly zero level in 2000.

On the other hand, the pollution level of smoke climbed continuously higher from nearly zero level for the next 300 years after 1600 although having random fluctuations during the period 1700-1750 and 1850-1900. Surprisingly, like Sulpher dioxide the pollution level due to Smoke began to reduce at the same time when the Sulpher dioxide’s pollution started falling. The pollution level reached nearly zero in 2000 just asSulpherdioxide  after experiencing fluctuations during the period.

Feedback score: 7+
Sample: 2

The line graph shows the amount of air pollution caused from Sulphur dioxide and smoke in London up to 400 years starting from the year 1600.

There are two different lines indicating the level of pollution in terms of the weight of both Sulphur dioxide and smoke in micrograms per cubic meter. The upper line in the graph indicates that in the year 1600, amount of sulphur dioxide in the air was greater than smoke. Amount of Sulphur dioxide in the air gradually increased over time followed by some fluctuations up to year 1900. The pollution level was high in mid 1800’s. However, the amount of air degradation began to decline sharply after 1900, resulting a almost zero amount in year 2000.

Pollution level from smoke was less compared to that of Sulphur dioxide but the pollution caused from smoke gradually increased with insignificant fluctuations and reached a peak point in around 1890. Then for the next 100 years, it began to decline with some fluctuations and ended up to almost a zero amount in the year 2000.

The pie chart illustrates the main reasons for worldwide agricultural land degradation which includes deforestation, over cultivation, over-grazing etc. The table shows how the lands from north America, Europe and Oceania had been affected by these reasons during the 1990s.

From the pie chart we can see that deforestation, over cultivation and over-grazing affected  almost equally to worldwide land degradation, each of which contributed about 30%. There were other reasons which had insignificant (7%) contribution in degradation of agricultural land.

From the table it is clear that in 1990, among the three regions, agricultural land in Europe degraded the most because of deforestation, over cultivation and over-grazing which was more than one fifth of the total land. North Amarica’s land was less affected compared to the other regions. Deforestation occurred highly (9.8%) in Europe and North America was insignificantly (0.2%) affected by deforestation.

Over cultivation had degraded Europe’s 7.7% land whereas in Oceania, there was no land degradation due to over cultivation. Over Grazing seemed the main reason for Oceania’s land degradation which contributed 11.3% of the total 13% degraded land. North America was the least affected by over-grazing contributing 1.5% of the total 5% degraded land.

The line graph delineates a trend about how the six energies were consumed earlier in 1980 and what will be the future consumption of those energies in 2030 in USA.

Overall, Petrol and Oil were the most consumed energy in 1980 and it will continue its supremacy in 2030 whereas even though Nuclear, Solar/Wind power and Hydropower energy started from the same point in 1980, it is Hydropower that will be consumed the lowest in 2030.

To begin with, Petrol and Oil started at a consumption amount of almost 35 quadrillion units and then it experienced an almost continuous growth although having a drop in consumption in the 1980-1985 and 1990-1995 period. Natural gas and Coal, however began with a consumption of 20 and nearly 15 quadrillion units respectively but in the final projection portrays a different scenario where Coal reaching over 30 quadrillion units of consumption and Natural Gas finishing with 25 quadrillion units. Both of them faced random fluctuation over the period and were almost on the same level of consumption for some time during 1985-1995 and again in 2005-2020.

On the other hand,Nuclear, Solar/Wind and Hydropower energy were consumed less than 5 quadrillion units in 1980 but during the five years between 1885 to 1990 Nuclear energy consumption increased and it maintained a stable consumption after that ending with well above 5 quadrillion units in 2030. After 1990 Solar/Wind and Hydropower used to have fluctuations in consumption and finally after some time during 2005-2010 Solar/Wind surpassed Hydropower in consumption and finished with a little more than 5 quadrillion units. Lastly, Hydropower is the least consumed energy in 2030 with less than 5 quadrillion units of consumption. ( 277 words!)

Sample: 2:

The line graph shows how much energy from different sources is consumed by the USA from the year 1980 till date and it also shows prediction up to 2030. The information is collected from Annual Energy Outlook 2008.

Overall, from the graph it is clear that petrol and oil consumption has always been highest in U.S and lowest consumption comes from hydropower energy.

Petrol consumption was the highest consumed fuel in the USA starting with 35 quadrillion in 1980. There was/ were some fluctuations up to year 2005 but after that, the amount of consumption went very high with a sharp upward trend which ended up with 50 quadrillion in 2030.

Natural gas and coal consumption were almost half in comparison of petrol consumption in 1980. Nevertheless, it is clear that the value went up gradually with some fluctuations.

In 1980, energy from three sources including nuclear energy, solar/wind energy and hydropower energy were consumed in lowest amount and approximately up to 7 years, the amount of consumption from these sources remained steady.  However, they showed a slightly upward trend with some fluctuations up to year 2007 and then remained steady on different consumption level. Among these three sources, nuclear energy consumption was the highest with about 7.5 quadrillion starting from 2005, amount of solar energy consumed by the USA was 5 quadrillion and solar/wind energy consumption was the lowest in amount. 1. Overall, there is lovely presentation. However, it will be better if you can add following things
  • Firstly, it is not an essay rather it is a report. Though you can provide conclusion at the end of the report, it is better to provide overview at the beginning I mean after the paraphrase. You can start like, Overall, it can said that” Just you will mention the key point in the over view part.
  • Secondly, instead of writing 10%, 5%, 30%, 48%, you can write 5%= insignificant amount/ 30%= precisely one third, 48%= almost half, etc.

Sample 2:

The two pie charts illustrate how much different kinds of energy were produced by France in the year 1995 and 2005.
Overall, coal had contributed as the biggest sector of energy production in the year 1995 and 2005 whereas energy produced other than gas, coal, petroleum and nuclear energy contributed as the least sector.

Coal had contributed as the largest segment in the energy production in 1995 and it rose a little higher in 2005 making up to 30.93% contribution in the whole energy production. Similarly, Gas also contributed almost equally as coal, making up to 30.31% in the year 2005. Energy produced by other sources almost doubled in 2005 and contributed almost 10% in the total production in 2005.

Petroleum production, on the other hand, decreased about 30% from 1995 to 2005 and contributed 19.55% in the total production in 2005. However, production from nuclear energy increased nearly twofold in 2005. In 1995, 6.40% nuclear energy was produced by France which almost doubled in 2005 making approximately one tenth (nice word) of the whole production.

For the academic IELTS, there are two part task 1 and task 2. In the academic writing, there are 5 kinds of writing tasks i.e Bar graph, Line Graph, Pie Chart, Table  and lastly Diagram. Today we will discuss how to write Diagram effectively. Let,s go for this!

Diagram is totally different from other writing task 1. You will find more or less similarity among the 4 writing task 1 except diagram. For diagram you need to know some certain rules. It is similar to process writing. If you can remember process writing, you will find that the process follows some steps. You have to describe the things step by step. The important thing is you have to understand from where the process begin and how many steps are there. Sometimes you can divide that mainly into two parts.

You have to write a general statement and a thesis statement  at the beginning as an introduction. Then you will use some linkers to write the process properly. In this case you should use some linkers like firstly, secondly, thirdly, afterwards, next, etc.

Fro writing task 1 you will get only 20 minutes to write 180 words, though the requirement of this task is 150 words, but to elaborate it properly you had better write 180 words. If you want to finish it timely, you must know time management. By two minutes, you have to understand the topic and buy another 3 minutes you will revise the writing and the rest of the 15 minutes you have to write 150 to 180 words.

The diagram depicts the process of how the electricity is produced using water. In this picture two processes are found i.e. the natural process and the artificial mechanical process. The combination of these two processes, electricity is produced.

Firstly, the natural process has both the condensation and evaporation process. In the natural process the water is shined by the sun and the water is evaporated into the cloud and the cloud falls down into the reservoir during the time of rain.

Secondly, the rain water flows from the reservoir to the turbine through pipe where a valve control the volume of water. Afterwards, the water is pushed back to the reservoir by a pump. This is the first step of the mechanical process.

Finally, the turbine converts water into electricity. In this part the step two of mechanical process begins where turbine plays a central role to produce electricity. From the spinning of the turbine, the electricity is produced and that is sent to the transformer station through a high voltage cable. After that the electricity becomes ready for the use. By an underground cable the electricity is sent to the schools, hospitals, factories, household and to the customers.
