Reading is nothing but a time management. Since you have to provide answer of 3 long passages within 60 minutes, you must be conscious about time management. To get a good score, you should have clear idea about reading module. Both academic and general reading modules are almost same. However, there is little difference between academic reading module and general reading module as passages for the general reading module are selected from the financial journal or from some statistics while for academic module the passages are chosen from some journals or from some research papers which are designed more academically.
You will be given three passages with approximately 40 questions in the IELTS Reading module. Each passage contains about 700 to 1400 words with 12 to 14 questions. The passages are usually chosen from journals, newspapers, books or magazines.

Procedure of the Reading test:
Usually after the listening test, candidates sit for the reading test. During the time of exam question paper and answer sheet will be provided. You should read the instruction of the exam written on your script. You are not allowed to start exam until you are told to open your exam paper. You are given 60 minutes to answer all the three passages. It is instructed to finish each passage within 20 minutes. But remember it is not a hard and fast rule. You can allocate your own time. For example, it is better to spend less time like 15 minutes for the easier passage. Normally, the first passage becomes easier, then 2nd one little harder and the 3rd one is the hardest of all. So, it is better to spend 25 minutes for the 3rd passage.

Tips for IELTS reading module:
1. Find the information as quickly as possible.
2. Never try to read passage word by word as you have limited time.
3. First skim through the passage quickly to find out the main idea of the passage
4. Never spend more than 7-8 to minutes to get the general idea of the passage.
5. Answer all the questions whether those are right or wrong as there is no negative marking. But try to guess correct one.
6. Reading module is designed to test your reading skills. So, don’t be afraid to find out passage with technical terms like robotics, genetics, economics or physics. Keep in mind that those are designed for non-technical readers.
7.Don’t panic when you cannot understand difficult words those might not be related to your answer
8. Pay special attention to the title and headings of the passages and notice Bold, italic, capital or quotation or underline words. These words are directly or indirectly related to the answer.
9. Follow the instruction carefully. If a question instructs to write ‘True’ for the true statement, never write ‘Yes’ that will be treated as wrong answer.
